Guideposts - Week18

Women know
The way to rear children (to be just)
They know a simple, merry, tender knack
Of tying sashes, fitting baby shoes,
And stringing pretty words that make no sense,
And kissing full sense into empty words.
~ Elizabeth Barrett Browning

My mom's given me the confidence to attempt anything.  She baked bread when everyone else was buying Wonder Bread.  We raised an orphan lamb in our suburban backyard.  She created wax flowers, knitted a Barbie wardrobe, crafted stained glass windows, quilted patchwork, camped cheerfully, canned fruit, made pie crust, worked alongside my dad, let us make mistakes and celebrated our successes.  She's an example and an inspiration. It's what mothers do.

Have a simple, merry, tender Mother's Day!  More motherly wisdom and love at A Cottage Industry.

Funny how we picked the exact same photo! But I have proof that I made my card and put it in the mail before you posted this entry! Mom certainly could do it all. If she didn't know how, she just started and worked on it until she figured something out, be it repairing the vacuum cleaner or making something without directions or pattern. Sound familiar?! We are more like her than we may realize.

  4. This is precious, as in, worth diamonds! It's those simple, mild pleasures that are so magical to a child. It makes life so pleasant and happy!

  5. Hi, What a sweet tribute to your mother. Those of us that still have our Mother's are truly blessed. I am thankful for my mother every day. She is my best friend, my cheerleader and more.. Thank you for visiting and leaving your kind comment on my "Saturday Night Special" centerpiece. I don't think I have loved anything more that this floral display that I designed, It has given me immense pleasure each time I walk past it.
