A Perfect June Morning

The drenching rains have subsided, there's not a breath of wind, and the sunshine brought balmy weather with her return.  Come walk with me in our backyard and see what's blooming today.

Sweet woodruff and a mountain fern light the shady side of the cottage.
Love!

While a small wild columbine nods delicately in the rain-freshened air.
I have a nursery bed of seedlings from this sweetie that will soon be ready to transplant. One can never have too many columbines, don't you agree?

My finicky Siberian iris have finally found a spot they like and are blooming for the first time in almost ten years. Turns out they love full sun and frequent soakings.
I'm so glad I had the patience for a bit of trial and error--their rich color is worth the wait.

The Kharma dog decided a morning drink was more important than the mirrored surface of Lilypad Pond. Still, I'm loving the ripply reflection of the snowball bush and an older lupine in the water.  And our sky of Nevada blue.  I live in the most beautiful place in the world!  (I'm just a tad prejudiced.)
Little did I know when I took this photo that a lurker has taken up residence in the pond! As soon as I can flush her out and have my fearless husband catch her, a little garter snake will be gently carried into the greenbelt where she can hunt to her tummy's content and cease scaring the beejeebers out of me.  My froggies have been very quiet recently and I'm hoping they are just laying low.  I miss their croaking each evening.  Come back, little peepers!

Join me at this week's garden parties.

I so enjoy seeing what's blooming in other corners of the world and connecting with other gardeners.

Thanks for stopping by the cottage on this fine June day,

  7. Your garden is very beautiful! I had no idea Nevada could be so "garden-y" (being east of the Mississippi River as I am). I have a little pond also, but our two cats seem to think the frogs are their personal little snacks, so I'm having a lot of trouble getting them established.

  8. Beautfiul pond garden! Visiting via Jean's BT. Your blooms and photos are fabulous. I will tell you, that's my fear, reaching into my little pond to clean out debris and grabbing a snake!

Thanks so much for sharing. I look forward to checking out more of your blog.
