Lighten Up

I have a Summer List. A very loooong Summer List.  So what did I do first?  The one thing that I've been dying to do for weeks...but I wanted to wait until school ended.

Can you guess?

Yep, I grabbed my sharpest scissors and whacked four inches off.  Love it!

It's the perfect length for a cute well-mannered summer ponytail.  Let the fun begin!

Celebrating Freedom

S'wonderful not having a schedule!

I managed to visit three of my favorite bargain haunts. Stop number one, I scored seven books from the Paperback Exchange. Stop number two, a plate to be gifted to the Queen Mother on her birthday and the Professor's Christmas present. Also two yards of lace pour moi to edge my blue shirt. Stop number three, the flowered china salad plate--part of a belated birthday present for a friend.

School is definitely out!

Diva Season

First we had this shy little iris casually turning heads...

Followed by someone trying to outshine the sun...and succeeding.

But right now this stops us in our tracks each time we walk to the front door...talk about welcoming!

Definitely the star of the show at Meadowsweet Cottage.

I just love my subtle garden.

Join me while I head over to join my fellow gardeners at the Tuesday Garden Party at An Oregon Cottage.

A Well-Loved Hard Worker

A vintage apron for only a dollar...

well-worn, a few holes and plenty of grease stains...but look at the curve on that pocket...

and that neckline....so sweet...

but what really made me buy it was the tie that had been replaced.  It was touching.

I dream about the woman who wore this apron.  She was petite, I can tell from its size.  How many chicken dinners did she fry for her family?  Were there childish tears dried with the corner of her apron?  Did she gather snap beans in it?  Or hang laundry while wearing it? Was green her favorite color?

Lover of vintage linens,

My Guideposts - Week22

It's what you learn after you know it all that counts.
~John Wooden

Isn't it lovely when a coach universally is regarded as a hero, The Wizard, a legend and a mentor because he cared about his players, inspired his team, and left the world a better place? John Wooden was one of the most inspirational philosophers of our generation and that (along with a cadre of former players who are better people for having known him) is a far greater legacy than a win/loss record.

Peacefully,

Shutter Weather

Our windy, cold, I'd-rather-be-inside-sewing spring weather finally turned balmy, just in time for us to enjoy Memorial Day weekend!

I've been yearning for months to finish painting my $1 ReStore shutters, add hinges and finally set them outside.  Patience is not my strong point--enthusiasm is!

They are both apple-green now and I discovered a pair of hinges that will work for them. Not the clover-leaf hinges I'm dreaming of (I'll still be on the lookout)...still, the shutters will be usable as a screen until my perfect vintage hardware appears.
I can hardly wait to see them nestled behind the wicker chairs, terra cotta bunnies and blooming containers on our front porch!
